Silent Too Long

Silent Too Long.

Damaged children,

In grown ups clothes,

Filled with a poison,

That no one knows,

Because we’ve been silent too long.

Generations bring down generation,

Filled with broken dreams.

So called happy families,

That are not what they seem,

Because we’ve been silent too long.

Breaking cycles upon cycles,

That have gone on too long.

Showing the ugly side,

That was hidden and wrong,

Because we’ve been silent too long.

Facing all the fears,

Learning a new way,

Because it can’t stay like this,

It cannot stay this way,

Because we’ve been silent too long.

This was written after going to a Poetry Slam!

The duel of the wordsmiths

A room up high with no view

Rustling of paper and pen

The smell of anticipation

Wafting through the air.

Eyes wondering from pages to faces

Words going back and forth

They’re going through their paces

As they practice in their heads

Hands nervously above their holsters

Filled with their weapons of words

The count down begins…..

“Remember you only have 3 minutes”

It starts and I take cover

Afraid of being hit by

An array of strange words

With meanings unknown to me

I pretend I understand

My hands join in with the applause

Hoping like mad I don’t clap during a pause

Trying hard not to look too bored.

Then just when I wasn’t prepared

A word came out of the blue

It struck me right through my heart

Feelings oozing from the wound

My GOD! Hit by a stray word!

Caught in the middle of a battle

Slayed by an accidental blow

At the duel of the wordsmiths.

The sea is an untamed animal Poem

The sea is an untamed animal

I sat in the back of the boat,

Watching where we had been.

The sea rising like a dolphin in the wake

And the foam doing its merry dance.

The sea is an untamed animal,

And we are riding on it’s back.

We ride it like a wild horse in a rodeo,

As it roars and tries to push us over the edge.

When the boat is still upon its water,

The sea seems to be more content,

Rocking us like a baby in a cradle

But we do not fall asleep.

Underneath it’s glistening back,

Is a whole other world.

One we only know some of,

One where we could not live.

We come to conquer and pillage,

As blindly we put our lines in.

Catching our prisoners for the eating

But they don’t come with out fighting.

To the sea these are treasures,

It seems to let us have

But we must always show it respect

Because the sea is an untamed animal.

There's a rainforest in my CD Player Poem

There‘s a rainforest in my CD player.

Rushing here and rushing there

Time ticks past so quickly

I swear I could feel a breeze!

Running down, running out of energy

I was surprised to see a glitch in time

“I will cook tea” he said

Oh my, what to do, what to do

I slowly lay myself on to the bed

Turning the light on,

Pressing play on the CD player

I start to relax and read

“Relax” what a foreign feeling

My mind starts to wonder

I see a rainforest, I hear the birds

I smell the sweet wet smell of running water

The sun glistens through the tree tops

I am intoxicated and sleepy

The music it lifts me up and lays

Me on the water to float peacefully

In the distance I hear a call

It gets stronger and louder

“Mum” “mum” “I am hungry”

Chants the 6 year old

The rain forest swirls and

Shrinks like backwards smoke

And rushes into my CD player

Damn Reality hits again!

The Child Inside Painting and Poem

The child inside.

The Summer turns to Autumn.
The young start to grow old.
The child that lives inside me,
Starts to open and unfold.

Broken Limits Poem

Broken limits

As she despairingly sat down,

Her world spinning around in her head,

She who thought she could do all,

Knew she was heading for a fall.

Knowing she had broken the limits again,

But she was sick of limitations,

They to her were a dirty word.

She fought hard to keep up,

Now the only fight left,

Was to try to stay awake.

Dozing off to the land of despair,

Releasing all the monsters that had been locked up.

Once again they did their merry dance inside her head,

Chanting obscenities over and over again.

Gradually they faded as she sank into sleep,

Her subconscious world sighing in relief as it let go.

As it put out the over loaded trash.

But sleep does not always bring rest.

The Washing Monster Poem

The washing monster

Exasperated she let out a sigh.

She watched in horror as it slowly crept out from under the beds,

From on the floor and worked its way into a pile by the laundry door!

It sat there looking at her with that smirk of power.

“I can beat this” she thought “It will not take me!”

I will break it up into little pieces and kill it small pile by small pile.

She rubbed her hands together with an almost insane look in her eyes.

It still looked at her with that sickening smirk.

She pulled up her sleeves gave a scream and ran towards it!

She broke it into smaller pieces, into many little piles.

It did not ease much of the fear though.

I must be smarter she thought

I will win this battle, I will!

Just then the dog ran in, sniffed the monster and played with it.

In just a split second it had regrouped into one big pile again!

Arrggh she cried!

She kicked the dog out and muttered something about “so called man’s best friend!”

She had had enough!

She jumped on it wrestling with it,

She was soaked in sweat but at last it was broken down into small piles again.

I must drown it, small pile by small pile, and she did.

After each drowning she hung them on the line as a show of strength, to warn others who walked by that she was not one to mess with.

It took hours but there it was a clean floor.

The monster was gone!

She sat back with a celebrational cup of tea,

Lulling herself into a false sense of security.

Because you cannot fight this monster and win.

It came from under the beds, from the dirty clothes baskets,

And the clean ones too!

She got up to gloat over her victory....

She screamed in terror!

There it was again that monster with that powerful smirk!

“F**k this” she said “I’m going shopping!”

"The lump of Clay" Poem by Margie Thomas

The lump of clay

Inside are the wildwoods

There are so many stories waiting to be told

The primeval yearnings can be heard uttering from my soul

The writhing pain of suffering and loss

The ecstasy of the magical heights

All inside me

Yet no one can see

All they see is a quiet form

A lump of clay with breath

I am waiting I am in waiting

Frustration oozes from my soul

Waiting for the woods to grow

Waiting to reach my full height

With the music of my soul

Permeating all around

To bring an awakening

When I breathe the birds will rise

From my strong branches

They will have freedom in their flight

But I will be rooted to the ground

I will sing of the joys and pains of growing

I will sing of loneliness and love

My tears will drench the earth

Where the fairies and elves weave their magic in my mind

For reality is not a peaceful place

Not a place for the feint hearted

I will bear fruit for all to enjoy

For small and large, strong and weak

But only in time

Only in belief

That this lump of clay can do more than breathe.
